THE Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned two anti-graft campaigners,

Akinyemi Badejogun and Olanrewaju Bakare, before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja over alleged stealing of N72.6 million.

The two suspects are officials of the National Anti-corruption Volunteer Corps (NACV), a voluntary anti-graft campaign group.

Badejogun and Bakare are the Coordinator and Treasurer of the Lagos State chapter of the Corps respectively. They are being slammed with 36-count charges.

The two officers pleaded not guilty to all the charges, but the ICPC insisted that the duo conspired to commit felony, stole and fraudulently converted funds belonging NAVC to their own personal use.

They were also accused of making false and misleading statements to an operative of the ICPC.

The offences, the commission, alleged were committed between December  2010 and November 28, 2011.

In one of the counts, Badejogun and Bakare allegedly conspired to transfer a sum of N55 million from one NAVC’s account in Fidelity Bank to another account belonging to the Corps in the same bank.

ICPC charges further alleged that this conferred corrupt advantage on the duo and thereby violating Sections 19 and 26(1)(c) of the ICPC Act 2000.

Following their arraignment and their not guilty plea, the presiding judge, Justice Lawal-Akapo, adjourned the case till July 3, 2015 to entertain their applications for bail.
