With Daniel Sturridge injured, Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez gone, Liverpool may struggle without the stars who took them so close to the title

Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez have left Liverpool, with Raheem Sterling to follow and Daniel Sturridge injured

April 13, 2014: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling, Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge celebrate victory over Manchester City, the title is within their grasp.
Just over a year later, three have left, and one has barely kicked a ball for the club since, struggling with a raft of injuries.
Sterling's imminent arrival at Manchester City will mean he becomes yet another key player that Liverpool have ‘lost’ since they came up short in their attempts to win the Premier League title two seasons ago.
Liverpool fans have watched on as the men who played centre stage in their ultimately unsuccessful charge for the league crown have left the club.

Brendan Rodgers will need to be smart in the transfer market and reinvest the £49million fee for Sterling wisely if they are to improve upon their disappointing campaign last year.
So what has happened to the stars who played such a key role in that dramatic chase for the title?

Following a protracted transfer saga, Manchester City are finally set to sign Raheem Sterling, and while Liverpool will be pleased with his fee, they will find it difficult to replace one of their most influential players, although the arrival of Roberto Firmino may soften the blow.
Sterling rejected a new £100,000-a-week contract at Anfield, with agent Aidy Ward stating that the forward would not sign a new deal even if offered '£900,000 a week'.
His transfer saga rumbled on, with City having two bids rejected, Sterling calling in sick for training twice and refusing to go on the club tour, before they finally got their man.

After being left out the starting line-up for the Champions League group match at Real Madrid last November, Steven Gerrard has since admitted that was when he knew his time at Anfield was coming to an end.
The club captain and legend spent 17 years as Liverpool's midfield general after coming up through the youth system, and was an integral part of the club.
His farewell to Anfield this summer was a sombre moment for supporters as he left to join LA Galaxy, and it will take someone special to even come close to matching the impact the 35-year-old had on Merseyside.

Probably the biggest loss of all, Liverpool have struggled up front since Luis Suarez was sold to Barcelona for £75m last summer.
The man who helped carry the Reds with 31 goals in 33 Premier League games in the 2013-14 season was instrumental in their title challenge that year, although they eventually fell just short.
Suarez has flourished in Spain since his move, but Liverpool have failed to prosper without him.
