Turan, 28, had hoped United would join the clubs interested in acquiring his services but sources at Old Trafford confirmed the Turkish international was 'not on the fairway' when it came to their summer transfer plans.
United are trying to agree a fee with Southampton for Schneiderlin who is valued by his club at around £25million.

And manager Louis van Gaal already has a number of players on his books who can play the No10 role including Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Angel Di Maria and Marouane Fellaini.
Barcelona are favourites to win the race for Turan but his former team-mate Chelsea striker Diego Costa has appealed for him to move to Stamford Bridge.
United are also involved in a battle with Real Madrid over David de Gea and Sergio Ramos. Madrid want goalkeeper de Gea but the Old Trafford club insist Ramos must be part of the deal unless the Spaniards dramatically increase their £13million offer for de Gea.
