But instead of contending with overwhelming crowds, seek refuge along these hidden sandy shores that are just that little bit further off the beaten path.
In Cornwall, Sandy Mouth, which features a secluded beach below towering cliffs, and Kynance Cove, with its crystal clear blue waters, are both beautiful in their own ways.
The latter may be one of the most photographed of all beaches in the area, but only recently has it been made more accessible - thanks to a National Trust toll road and car park.
Further north, Barafundle Bay Beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales is reached only after a half-hour trek across the clifftops, so it's almost always guaranteed to be relatively quiet.
And up in Scotland, the famed Silver Sands of Morar are another must-visit, situated along an old coastal road between Morar and Arisaig.
