Indications have emerged that the 49 year-old Chief Consultant Gynaecologist and Managing Director of Hope Medical Centre, Benin City, Dr. John Abode, who was found dead in his wardrobe last Tuesday, may have actually committed suicide, Vanguard reports.
Quoting a top security source, the report has it that the deceased, who was said to have attempted suicide on several occasions, but was stopped by his wife, injected himself with a yet-to-be disclosed substance before heading to his wardrobe where he hanged himself with his belt.
According to the report, the day the sad incident occurred; the wife attended a church service where she later called their 10-year-old son to inform the father that she wanted to speak with him.
The security source said: “It was at that point that the boy searched the house and discovered the deceased body in the wardrobe.”
It was learned that the deceased’s wife rushed down to their residence and it was in an attempt to see if she could revive the husband that she moved the body out of the wardrobe.
According to the report, the wife of the deceased had earlier informed the deceased’s family about the attempted suicide in the past by their son, an action that led the widow to be deeply involved in church activities to intercede for the husband in prayers.
It was also gathered that the deceased, also is a staff of the Stella Obasanjo Women and Children Hospital in Benin City, and despite his success as a gynecologist, his occasional erratic behaviour at home had always been a been a source of great concern for the wife, who had always counseled him against his urge to commit suicide.
